Although I could see the group leader / father / ruler wanting to pass along his attraction/power skills to his offspring (primarily the eldest).

Then again, only mom really knows who the daddy is (and sometimes maybe even not then if she's cheating, which then says something about alpha's skills not being all that).

In general, yeah, masculinity has been around for as long as gender has.
So it makes sense that bootcamps/initiation has been around since Sapiens cleaned out the gene pool.
