Some tracks, videos and lyrics that depict the “lover” personality style, featuring different styles of music and even different cultural backgrounds:
“Kuch kuch hota hai” from the great Indian “Bollywood” movie “Kuch kuch hota hai”, starring Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji
-
“Suraj hua maddham” from “Bollywood” movie “Kabhi khushi kabhie gham”, starring Shahrukh Khan & Kajol. A movie with tons of great KWML, MindOS and OMS lessons, by the way …
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owST8za3eIk
“Tere liye” from the even greater Indian love story “Veer-Zaara”, and unlike Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet”, this isn’t a tragedy because the main characters are a better KWML match …
-
“You sang to me” by Marc Anthony

“Reality” by Richard Sanderson (from soundtrack “La Boum”)

“Give me your love” by Frank Duval
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyGjeN8loM4
“Mere haath mein” from Indian “Bollywood” movie “Fanaa” (starring Aamir Khan as a rather unhealthy “warrior” kind of guy, and of course the lovely actress Kajol Devgan …)

Re: December and the PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC!
Here is my two cents:
Pat Matheny = Lover magician
Jeff Buckley = Lover
Kate Bush = Magician
Van Morrison = Lover
Although Van Morrison leaves 20 minutes drive from me I have never met him. How and ever, he does have a reputation for grumpiness attested by bartenders and taxi drivers. That does't make him a warrior does it.?

Re: December and the PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC!
Nicketas wrote:I have found, by and large, that magicians and lovers tend to be more open minded and adventurous when it comes to music.
This isn't 100% true in my experience but a LOT of times it is.
For example, I have a friend of mine who is a king. We both love, among other things, electronic music.
BUT he likes music that is more linear and has a steady, predictable beat progression (like Trance), whereas I prefer music that keeps you guessing, throws off your expectations (such as Trip Hop, IDM, Drum & Bass, Etc...)
I even see this applicable to jazz. We both like Jazz, but I prefer the more esoteric, whereas he enjoys more structure.
Also with Rock. He prefers classic rock (Zeplin), whereas I prefer more postmodern avant garde (Aloha).
Same BROAD category, but the main difference is, yet again, how many changeups occur amidst the song. Yet even still, We do find common ground amongst more popular bands (Pearl Jam and bands of that era), etc.
There are exceptions, though. Sometimes I like mellow tracks with a steady beat, sometimes he likes crazier, spastic improvisations. (...)
This also reminds me of Howard Gardner's research on musical intelligence (...)
Yes. YES!
Thanks for making this interesting distinction point in relating musical preferences to the cognitive spectrum: Liking a steady, structured, predictable ("left-brained") beat - or tending to more variations and unexpected improvisations, i.e. a more "right-brained" quality and ability.

Re: December and the PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC!
A lot of the lyrics Neil Peart writes for Rush can be very profound in places. The most recent album "Snakes and Arrows" is evidence of this. Another album I'm digging right now is Marillion's "Happiness is the Road" especially the first Volume "Essence."
Ever since becoming aware of Dr Paul, David DeAngelo etc, I've started to wonder whether alot of the lyrics written by David Coverdale can be seen as somewhat wussy. Though Coverdale himself appears very self assured. Then again I remember him saying his songs were meant to be tongue in cheek most of the time.
My 2 cents...
Weird Al Yankovic - Magician
Dee Snider - Magician
Phil Anselmo - Warrior
Ronnie James Dio - Warrior (kill that Cancer Ronnie)
I suppose all those Guitar Shredders out there the Yngwie Malmsteens, the Paul Gilberts, Jeff Becks, Tony MacAlpines, Steve Morses etc can be seen as Magicians in their own right.

Re: December and the PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC!
Personally I'm a King and have some musical talent (didn't practise at in as a kid so that's just a hobby for me now... even though I wouldn't mind making it part of my mission some day in the future).
Making music is my main way to practise Magicianly skills. And I admire magicianly improvisation skills in musicians although I quite like bands like The Eagles with a more Kingly style.
Here are lyrics for a man who stays on his mission (apart from the last couple of lines):
Frank Sinatra - That's life
That's life, that's what all the people say.
You're riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June.
I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down,
'Cause this fine ol' world it keeps spinning around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.
That's life
I tell ya, I can't deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it.
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself laying flat on my face,
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
That's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out
But my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come this here july
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die
My, My

Yea, he was clever enough to not to walk into that jaguar half way through...
But i think DP was also saying you should make eye contact and hopefully communicate strength and make them step out of the way.

Re: December and the PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC!
I just heard a song from Mistress Barbara for the first time and I felt like it hit home for me. It was like this song summed up my life so far. This song really connects to m and helped me to better understand myself. I hope that makes some sense.
The song is called, "I'm Running." Check it out on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIWpVNQpVBo

"The Streets" is a UK hip hop artist whose work is filled with dating stories and advice. In fact if you choose the right songs you can almost chart his progress from naive boy who fears and idealizes women to a mature masculine man, able to truly appreciate his potential soulmate:
Don't Mug Yourself
Hold it down boy, your heads getting blurred
I know you can't stop thinking of her
By all Means you Can Vibe with this Girl
But don't mug yourself, thats all just don't mug yourself
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5OaqUMplBQ
Could Well be in
I saw this thing on ITV the other week,
Said, that if she played with her hair, she's probably keen
She's playin with her hair, well regularly,
So i reckon i could well be in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DQ9qBLHLAo
War of the Sexes (pretty much a humorous pick up anthem. I've listed the full lyrics at the bottom of this post)
It's a war of the sexes never get it blurred
I beg that you learn 'cause she's cleverer
How attracted to you she is to you is partly your gab
But it's multiplied by how little of you she can have
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5OaqUMplBQ
Strongest person I know
You gently take things slowly
You softly bowl them over
That's the delicate way you've shown me
You're the strongest person I know
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4UKMdwxv40
---
War of the Sexes
I dream that one day i'll have a child
And that child will say to me "dad, what was war?"
But it's not going to happen!
It's a war of the sexes never get it blurred
I beg that you learn 'cause she's cleverer
How attracted to you she is to you is partly your gab
But it's multiplied by how little of you she can have
Oi the reason girls flirt is to work out their worth
Whereas men just hanker for the panky to happen
Retain this fact i'm hammering, this fact is gonna matter
What little you think you're letting by her sly
She senses you're near her and smells your desire
The general rule of mine, her intellect will be higher
Your task is to make her notice you fast but hanker when you don't close in after
She knows she can get most dudes but she mustn't know about you
If you screw this all up and then lose all your cool thats when she ends up liking you as a friend
You're not playing hard to get
You're playing at not getting a hard-on yet
It's a war of the sexes never get it blurred
I beg that you learn 'cause she's cleverer
How attracted to you she is is partly your gab
But it's multiplied by how little of you she can have
And you wanna know what, listen..
The answer is to get close enough to her but listen the next thing you just totally blank her
You think i'm f****** mad don't ya but i don't shag on my own
Get somewhere close to the lamb but then glance and turn to the man
You need to be near to the lamb but she doesn't want to feel cramped
Instead of cowering up to the hostile lamb bowl up to the trusting man
It's much easier talking to him, he doesn't suspect you want anything
Just tell him something like
Did you know cigarette lighters were invented before matches?
It's abc making a he break with glee
'Cos he isn't suspicious you're trying to muscle into his misses
Do you know what i'm talking about that's why i'm talking about
It's a war of the sexes never get it blurred
I beg that you learn 'cause she's cleverer
How attracted to you she is is partly your gab
But it's multiplied by how little of you she can have
The woman is a highly socially-practised
Master in body language, dab-handed actress
She's calculating all the mad facts and the figures
While you're pretending to listen staring at her tits
It's a war of the sexes never get it blurred
I beg that you learn 'cause she's cleverer
How attracted to you she is is partly your gab
But it's multiplied by how little of you she can have
It's a war of the sexes never get it blurred
I beg that you learn 'cause she's cleverer
How attracted to you she is is partly your gab
But it's multiplied by how little of you she can have
Elementary, my dear cousin (elementary)
I cannot state this enough
She must not clock your flop
You can't placard your march
Your threws seclude your moves
Or you're colluding well weapon
It's a war of the sexes never get it blurred
I beg that you learn 'cause she's cleverer
How attracted to you she is is partly your gab
But it's multiplied by how little of you she can have
And remember not to get hammered either
'Cause people who get hammered don't get to nail!
Don't Mug Yourself
Hold it down boy, your heads getting blurred
I know you can't stop thinking of her
By all Means you Can Vibe with this Girl
But don't mug yourself, thats all just don't mug yourself

Re: December and the PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC!
This is a great topic.
I'm a devout Tool fan because of their use of imagery and introspection in the lyrics and in the music. One can surely find a useful metaphysical and psychological bridge between Maynard's words, Danny's rhythm and defiance of time on his drums, Adam's hand heavy licks and Justin's thick, almost meditative, Bass.
Some tunes I'd suggest for poignancy would be:
Lateralus (The single most expressive song in their repertoire),
Reflection,
H.,
Jimmy,
The Pot,
Right in two,
10,000 Days (Wings Part 2),
Undertow,
Jambi,
Vicarious,
Die eire von Satan (a very witty piece!).
These will set a good foundation for the rest of your burdgeoning fandom.

Ahh. Now we´ve come to it, Tool - my favourite band, which speaks directly to the 35% Lover part of me
The song suggestions above are great. To add to the Tool experience, see this video from beginning to end. I know it´s long but just relax and enjoy it. The climax in the end is worth every penny
http://www.56.com/u11/v_MTYyMTQzNTI.html
Adam Jones, the guitarist, makes all their videos with the sculptures and stuff. The visionary artist Alex Grey made the end of this video, as well as much of the bands art work. Enjoy!

Re: December and the PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC!
I just had to share this. It is about transitions and it might be the most beautiful price of music I have ever heard. A mix of sadness, but also so much hope and joy. To some extent what we are all looking for ,going from where we are, to something that is a promise of a better tomorrow, whether it is with a special some one, or whether it is finding our passion in life. Saying god bye to the one we once where.

This is the most relaxing piece of music i have ever heard.
I play this if I'm upset or angry or sad. Always makes me feel better.
