Your Penultimate Reflection

Postby Nicketas » Thu Mar 10, 2011 11:57 am

Let's dive into your mind, shall we?

I want you to take a second to look back on your life and tell me (or yourself) what you see.

What images, sounds, tastes, thoughts, memories, and tragedies come up?

Try this without questioning them, just let them seep in to the center of your mind.

What do you see? What do you feel? What senses are aroused?

Just hold these images in your mind, all of them, as best as you can.

Now guess what.

This exact process - that you just did - is precisely what is going to happen to you when you die.

Every thought and memory is going to be presented to you square in your face at the end of your life and there is nothing you are going to be able to do to stop or ignore it.

Do you like what you see?

Is it a highlight reel? Are you mostly satisfied with what you have done with yourself so far? Are these memories happy?

How many keepsakes do you have or artifacts to recall the precious memories of your very existence - a mere flicker - on this temporal plane?

Or were you too drunk to remember?

Too careless to pay attention to someone who needed you?
Too focused on work to call your friends?

Did you forget to put yourself aside and kiss your woman?

Too tied up in minutae and meaningless details to focus on what's really EMOTIONALLY important to you and your loved ones?

Too busy fretting over finances?
Blowing money on a car payment (or credit card) that could have been better spent paying for *several* wonderful meals with friends, lovers, and family?

Were you there, or just witnessing?

Sincerely, how do your memories make you feel?

You'll always have bills to pay, my friend. You'll always have responsibilities and your mission - critical as it may be - will never die.

You, and most importantly those you care about, will.

What exactly are you going to do about that?

Your Penultimate Reflection: You're dead.

But let's rewind that a bit..... And Truly live.

As though it mattered.

Because it does.

Shall we?

There comes a point in your life when you realize:

Who matters,
Who never did,
Who won't anymore...
And who always will.

So, don't worry about people from your past,
there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Men who fear becoming fathers don't understand that fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects the man.
